Remake of the Remake of 12 (The Re-post)

Hi guys - there were some errors in trailer placement in the previous version of the show, so we've battled tirelessly to bring you a new version - and here it is!

Cue the Film!

Chris says: I subscribe in iTunes, so to get mine to work I had to unsubscribe and then re-subscribe, but it was the work of mere seconds.

There was so much more I wanted to say about The Departed, my favorite movie ever. I wanted to discuss the brilliant casting of nice-guy Matt Damon as slimy Donovan as well as who was the baby-daddy.

I didn't get to talk much about the unusual (by today's standards) camera work and screen compositions in The Thing From Another World. Notably one medium shot in which FOURTEEN characters are visible on screen at once, and none particularly in the distance.

To cap it all off, that's not even in what we would call "widescreen" - that's fourteen characters viewed in a 4:3 academy ratio frame. Amazing.

I guess we didn't get to talk about loads of stuff. Perhaps fewer films next time?

which ones should we cut out, oh yeah i do not think we included bratz on the list, since you said less this time or do you mean when it is stephs turn

I only meant it as a future consideration, not necessarily for shows we already have planned. LOVEFiLM still haven't sent me Citizen Kane, so we may be down a film anyway.

It was just hard for me to decide how to discuss- compare and contrast or what. I wasn't very prepared.

Literally just as I was considering grabbing a fellow Brit to do a splice on Withnail & I, along come Cadmium II with their take on it.

Now do How to Get Ahead in Advertising, guys.

I'll splice with you, Chris.

I've always thought of you first Elias - cos of the combination of your film knowledge and how amazingly easy it is for one of us to get to the other one.

Really the only problem is that you'll clearly be more knowledgable than me and I'll be forced to edit you to sound like an idiot just to make myself look good.

Also - I'd probably a proper microphone as we probably can't BOTH use my Skype headset without hugging.

Nice of you to say so Chris but seeing hundreds of films isn't the same as remembering anything about them. I keep forgetting Walter Brennan's name even though he's one of my favourite character actors - even then I had to imdb Rio Bravo to find it.

Also - I'm enjoying listening to you lot talk film. Except when you make wild claims like Kurt Russell was only in 4 Carpenter films!

Chris JC said...

If you only count theatrical releases then he was only in four.

:D

Well played.

I am very much looking forward to your next episode so even if you have to magic box Citizen Kane I'm sure the ghost of Orson Welles wont mind ;)

Charles Foster Kane's life story has arrived.

Now I need to find a time to watch it between work, Lego Indiana Jones and my promised viewing of The Happening.

Blog update for new episode?

Tosus: it's clearly the "Cuers of the Film"

CITIZEN KANE to THE USUAL SUSPECTS
Orson Welles was played by Vincent D'Onofrio (with the voice of Maurice LaMarche) in Tim Burton's "Ed Wood", also featuring Johnny Depp who was in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with Benicio Del Toro who starred in The Usual Suspects.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS to DOCTOR ZHIVAGO
Kevin Spacey's voice was in A Bug's Life with John Ratzenberger's voice. John Ratzenberger's voice and body stars in one of my favourite TV movies Time Stalkers (with William Devane, Tim Russ from Star Trek: Voyager and Phil Avery who was the wonderful combination of both "Uncle Phil" from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and the voice of Shredder in the late 80s version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) which also stars Klaus Kinski, who was in Doctor Zhivago.

DOCTOR ZHIVAGO to SCHINDLER'S LIST
Klaus's daughter Nastassja Kinski was in Harem with Ben Kingsley who is in Schindler's List.

finally

SCHINDLER'S LIST to BRINGING UP BABY (the really tough one)
Ben Kingsley IS Gandhi alongside John Gielgud who was in obscure heist film 11 Harrowhouse with Trevor Howard (who I sometimes get confused about when people mention Terence Howard. Howard was in Father Goose with Cary Grant who starred in Bringing Up Baby.

I could not have done that on the show, at least in a listenable amount of time.

And just for Emily, Vincent D'Onofrio was also in Men in Black with Will Smith who was in I, Robot with Alan Tudyk. Several plasticky version of Alan Tudyk, no less.

His autobiography is certainly worth a read if you're a fan of mad European bastards.
